Disney to Aquire Marvel for 4 Billion

Walt Disney Co. said Monday it has reached a deal to acquire Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock ($50 a share). With the news Marvel (MVL) shares were up 25% in midday trading, at $48.30 while Disney (DIS) shares were down 3.7% at $25.88.

Apple and China Unicom to Launch Three Year iPhone Deal

Apple Inc. (AAPL) and China Unicom (CHU) announced plans to launch the iPhone in China later in the year. This would be a three-year deal for the iPhone to make its debut in China.

Los Angeles Coroner Rules Michael Jackson Death a Homicide

Michael Jackson’s death was ruled a homicide caused by lethal dosage of drugs, specifically “acute propofol intoxication” along with benzodiazepine effect as a contributing factor, the Los Angeles Country Coroner said. Other sedatives contributed to the death are Lorazepam, midazolam, diazepam, lidocaine and ephedrine.

USPS Offering 30,000 Workers Buyout

The U.S. Postal Service offers $15,000 buyouts to about 30,000 workers to cut costs. The post office says it could save as much as $500 million next year.

UBS to Hand Over Client Names to U.S.

UBS AG (SWX:UBSN) agrees to hand over 4,450 client names to the United States where the U.S. tax authorities will administer a criminal investigation into Americans who use Swiss Bank accounts to hide their assets offshore to avoid paying taxes.
